you really ought to watch the video podcast of this.

i sat and watched them all today.

yes, i am sad, but it was my flippin day off, and it was awesome background noise to me planning out lessons for the next month.

as of late, i have become addicted to Father Ted.

this was an amazing discovery and i now have the holy trilogy ( the three seasons ).

Well, on IMDB, i clicked “catholic” to see if there are some other shows that have been eluding me.

And that is when I discovered the dvd, John Safran v. God, which is amazing and you can apparently watch online.

But what impressed me even more was, Speaking in Tongues… a talk show with John Safran and Catholic Priest named Fr. Bob.

It is amazing, has a video podcast ( which anyone can download and watch with quicktime), and you should watch it.

i was working last night, and got wicked tired so i decided to take a nap and then work some more.

then i had the weirdest dream ever.

it started when i was at u of i in the guys dorm. and i was looking for someone who wasn't there and joel was there. he either went to sleep or dissappeared and i realized i needed to go get something so i just took his keys and took his car to go do this thing. i dn't remember what it was. then i get back and i can't seem to park the car. i miss the parking spot and have to pull around, over and over again.

then, in the adjacent parking lot, i see the bishop in a dirty white subaru station wagon talking to someone we both know hates me. the bishop begins to mock the guy who hates me about hating me, and the guy responds in an equally joking manner. the bishop looks over at me trying to park the car winks, and continues on. i don't believe i have ever seen our bishop wink.

eventually, i get the car into a parking spot... and has become dusk. i can't then, get the car to stop... as i had gotten out and its still rolling. then one of my best friends from 3rd grade, shawn grabs the car and he stops it, so we can put it in park. then we can't turn off the lights, and i keep having to get out of the car to see if they are out, and i realize, at that point two things.

i realized that the car i was driving had changed from a normal car to a weird electric car. and 2, based on the fact my car changed, i became aware i was having a dream. i have not experienced having a dream and knowing in the dream it was a dream. very disturbing.

so, instead of going back to where i came from, i walk toward the parking lot where the bishop was. and now there is a house in the parking lot. and the front of the house is like a huge window that looks out onto the parking lot, and it has kind of a riser thing going, with three levels, and then a door off to the left that obviously leads out to the house. the bishop is in the house, on the lowest of the levels still talking to the guy who hates me, and on the top level is the bishop's wife, who i know talking to some woman from our church that has a kid. And i decide since it's a dream, i will just walk in.

the bishop's wife start's talking to me about how things are giong, and i start explaining all the stuff i had been working on before i went to sleep. she got an odd look on her face, and then one of my interns showed up, and was complaining that when i left, i didn't tell her there would be so much traveling ( by the way, this intern loves the trips ). Then the intern gets out this binder and goes through all the activities that are planned to the detail and inside are these ziploc bags with words in it. I explain its probably a scavenger hunt.

then all of a sudden a bunch of kids for my youth group or inside what seems to be the bishop's house. and all of them, including the bishop, who paused to ask me, "am i going yet?" began to run around the house and do the scavenger hunt. it was set up so each bag had a bunch of words in it, and you had to somehow put them in order so you would know what to go do.

as i am getting up to go see what is going on... the bishop's wife grabs my arm and says "transitions are complicated aren't they?" as if she knew i was in bizzarro land.

the first clue was that they had to find someone in a jazz band. and they all began to shout and complain and then ask, and the Bishop and i had both been in a jazz band, they mocked us and we defended ourselves and then the phone rang and it was Jed. He kept asking me when I was going to get there. That I was late. I kept asking him where there was, and he wouldn't tell me. then he mocked me, told me to hurry up, and then hung up on me.

then there was the next clue which was play a game with D and W in it. And the bishop had this massive game closet. the first group started playing, what i think was chandy land on the lower level of the house in front of the big window. Right next to them, the bishop and some of the kids played this game that was like three chess boards next to each other.

then the bishop looks at me and says "have you figured it out yet?"
and i said "not even close"
and then the bishop says "you have to get everything in order."
and i was like.. "uhh"
and then he said "you have to put the peices together at the right time and the right place. That's what ninjas do."

and i guess they all got done with the games they were playing and moved on to clue number 3.

"break the first rule"

and both groups didn't know what the rule was, and it seemed clear they had been told about 200 times.

i kept thinking it was love your neighbor as yourself. but i wasn't going to tell them. so they ran around tryinig to break rules. skateboards were involved. the bishop grinded a rail, though he wore a helmet. and then popped off the board and looked at me and said "have you figured out what's going on yet?"

and then the bishop asked me if i was going now or not, and i said, maybe it's too late. and then he said, you are welcome to stay here, but the choice is up to you. and then he wrote something on a peice of paper and then the phone rang and he ran off to answer it before i could see what it was.

meanwhile the kids are all shouting and bickering and then my phone rings again, and it's jed.

he said "where the hell are you?"
and i said "i don't know"
he said "well, when are you coming?"
i said, "i can't tell you. i think the kids have to figure out the first rule first."
he said "love the lord your god with all your heart mind and soul is the first and greatest commandment."
then paused and said, "alright. now come on." and hung up.

then it was all quiet. all the kids dissappeared, and there were these rocking chairs on the second level of the wide riser thing of the house. and i sit down, because all i wanted to do was wake up and not have to be there anymore. and the bishop comes and sits down next to me in this other rocking chair that just appeared.

i crack a joke about how in dream world he can conjure furniture and ride skateboards.

he laughs nods and we sit in silence forever.

then he asks me, "did you figure out the first rule?"
me, " i always knew, but somehow in bizzarre world i got it mixed up."
he said "did you break it? "
me, "nearly everyday in one way or another."
he said, " we all do. "
me, " because we are stupid "

he nodded and more silence.

then he asks, " so what do you do now? "
and i say, " i don't know."

more silence

then says "you don't have to understand everything in the present to know what to do now and in the future."

and then i woke up.

and sat there for about 2 hours.
